Root will be bringing its time in Bath to a close.

Since opening, we’ve been grateful for the warm welcome from the community and the support of our loyal guests. It’s been a pleasure to be part of Bath’s food scene and to share what Root is all about with a new audience.

A huge thank you goes to our team for their hard work, commitment and passion throughout the past year.

Our sister restaurants at Wapping Wharf in Bristol and in Wells remain open as usual, and we look forward to welcoming guests at both locations.

Our time in Bath has also provided an exciting opportunity for Head Chef Joe Fowler to develop and bring Koji Izakaya to life. While Root’s chapter in Bath comes to a close, Koji Izakaya will continue its residency within this space.

All existing bookings at Root Bath will be honoured up to our closing date, with our last service being on Saturday 31st October 2026. Guests with reservations beyond this date will be contacted directly and offered the option to transfer their booking to Koji Izakaya, Root Bristol or Root Wells.

Root vouchers can also continue to be redeemed at Bristol or Wells.

The reservation system will ask you to select an ‘area’ upon booking.

Our Bar and Kitchen Bar are perfect for intimate and relaxed dining. Whereas the Upstairs Restaurant is a brighter and more casual space where you can enjoy the rooftop views. In the warmer months, we will be able to offer outdoor dining on our Terrace.

Koji Izakaya is a new ‘restaurant inside a restaurant’ taking over the downstairs space of Root Bath on Wednesdays & Thursday Evenings.

From Tuesday 22nd September, Koji will be open Tuesday - Friday Evenings

Head chef of Root Bath, Joe Fowler has spent close to a decade cooking Japanese food, shaped by repeated visits to Japan and a deep familiarity with Izakaya culture.

The menu draws on British ingredients treated with Japanese technique and philosophy. The drinks list is equal in ambition to the food: house sakes, Japanese whisky, highballs and cocktails.

Joe’s introduction to Japanese food came through his partner, whose Japanese heritage took them both to Japan repeatedly and into the izakayas he fell in love with.

During lockdown Joe created ‘Bushi Sushi’ - which was a delivery operation that grew from twenty weekly orders into something he was genuinely proud of.

Now Koji is quickly establishing itself as one of Bath’s hottest Japanese restaurants.
