ROOT BATH

Tucked into the historic heart of Bath, the third site from the Root group is a vibrant, vegetable-forward restaurant, redefining modern dining. Set within the beautifully restored Shires yard. The restaurant blends clean and contemporary design with a warm, intimate and welcoming atmosphere that invites guests to relax and connect.

At its core, Root celebrates seasonal produce, crafting bold and creative plates which highlight vegetables. The menu is ever-evolving, inspired by local farms and global flavours, offering dishes that are both playful and refined. Whether you’re sharing plates over a lively dinner or settling in for a leisurely lunch, Root delivers an experience that feels fresh and considered—perfect for food lovers and anyone looking for something a little different.

On Sundays we offer a relaxed and seasonal three-course lunch. Replacing the usual sharing plates format but keeping our ingredient-led cooking. It’s a more traditional dining experience with the same emphasis on carefully sourced local ingredients.

Our Bar and Kitchen Bar are perfect for intimate and relaxed dining. Whereas the Upstairs Restaurant is a brighter and more casual space where you can enjoy the rooftop views. In the warmer months, we will be able to offer outdoor dining on our Terrace.

Please note, this may mean we are unable to relocate you to a different table when you arrive. If you have any queries, please contact the team.

Izakaya is a new exciting chef residency open on Wednesday and Thursday evenings inside Root - Shires Yard, Bath.

Head chef of Root Bath, Joe Fowler has spent close to a decade cooking Japanese food, shaped by repeated visits to Japan and a deep familiarity with izakaya culture.

The menu draws on British ingredients treated with Japanese technique and philosophy. The drinks list is equal in ambition to the food: house sakes, Japanese whisky, highballs and cocktails.

Joe’s introduction to Japanese food came through his partner, whose Japanese heritage took them both to Japan repeatedly and into the izakayas he fell in love with.

During lockdown Joe created ‘Bushi Sushi’ - which was a delivery operation that grew from twenty weekly orders into something he was genuinely proud of.

Now Koji is quickly establishing itself as one of Bath’s hottest Japanese restaurants.
